We had a fantastic tour with Nuno. We went to places where normal tourists never visit. It was a individual tour and Nuno told us lots of interessting historical things about the city. To visit Porto with Nuno was the best decision we did! It was great!
“Excellent Tour + Professional Guide”
In 2012 we toured Porto in a flash. Its magical beauty, gorgeous riverfront, vibrant atmosphere and irresistible pastries and BBQ chicken lured us back in June for a week-long reunion. We visited Lisboa and Macau (near Hong Kong, a Portugal colony until 1999) several times and always love their decorative ceramic tiles, - azulejos in Portuguese. So the walking tour “Tiles of Porto” is a must – and what a delight it turned out to be. Nuno, the guide, is an architect, a history buff, a researcher of Portugal tiles, a musician and a polyglot all in one. His erudite knowledge about the history of Portugal ceramic tiles, the evolution of the manufacture process and the famous artists and their masterpieces made the tour both entertaining and educational. These topics resonated with my own knowledge in the history and production processes of Chinese porcelain. The tour covered many sites and Nuno’s systematic presentation led us through the fundamentals of Portugal tiles, their functions and architectural applications, the preservation program, and the indicative process to distinguish good tiles from bad. All artists make mistakes and Nuno showed us some profoundly hilarious bloopers. On top of all these, after the tour, Nuno diligently followed-up with further detailed information of the artists and a map of the tour for reference. If you visit Porto, make sure you book a tour with Nuno. Besides Tiles of Porto, he conducts several other tours and excursions. My husband and I joined Nuno and Stefani for a dinner workshop. Nuno met us at the metro and walked us to his house, where he had 4 different wines and different cheese waiting!
It was so fun to learn how to prepare different Portuguese food and learn about wine, we will definitely take these recipes home with us!! Not only did we learn how to cook and got entrees, mains and dessert, Nuno taught us so much about the history of Porto and Portugal and drew us a map of what to see in our few days here! Then he took us out and showed us a few bars in town which was also made it an all round awesome night! I Highly recommend!!!!! We did a five-hour custom walking tour with Nuno and we are so glad we did! Nuno customized the tour according to our interests and level of fitness (we walked a lot, which was ok, but he arranged a route so that most of our walk was downhill or on level ground). Our particular interests were Porto's street art, its tiles, and its history through medieval times. Nuno has a broad and deep knowledge of all this and more. The tour itself was fascinating, and Nuno even followed up by emailing additional customized maps and information that we could use to explore on our own during our remaining days in Porto. Thanks to Nuno, we saw Porto with new eyes during the rest of our time there.
"Me and my friend spent a wonderful evening with Nuno enjoying tasteful Portuguese food and interesting conversation. We felt like visiting a good friend. Nuno is able to create a special warm atmosphere and makes his guests to open up and enjoy the whole setting. He was very generous both with serving local delicatesses (some of them, like olive oil, olives and an excellent port, were even produced by his relatives) and sharing his knowledge about Portuguese history, customs and the daily life. If you are looking for a true “slow food” experience combining with making acquaintance with an intelligent, open-minded and hospitable person, hurry up to book you “Be my guest in Porto” lunch or dinner. I would definitely recommend “Be my guest in Porto” as the best organized activity in Porto for single travelers and small group.
As far as I know Nuno is doing some walking tours as well. I would presume that with his background and extensive knowledge of Portuguese culture and history, these walking tours have to be a head above other similar concepts in Porto." (Svetlana) During my stay in Portugal, I decided to break from my friends for a day and leave Lisbon to visit Porto. At the last minute I booked a walking tour with Nuno. I'm so glad I did. The tour is easily one of the highlights of my 10 day trip. The meeting point was very easy to find from the train station and I found him pretty quickly. Due to a web site mix-up, I had actually scheduled a time and day that wasn't supposed to be offered! I was the only one who was able to purchase a ticket. Nuno was an absolute professional about it and, instead of cancelling what was, I'm sure, a tour that was not worth his while, he took me all over the city on an amazing private tour. Whatever you're interested in, tell him. He will customize the tour to your preferences and he seems to know everything about Porto, a city he is clearly very passionate about. From the old Jewish quarter to churches to the best cafes of the Belle Époque to bookstores to museums and street art to the history of the city itself, he is a fountain of knowledge and absolutely indefatigable. I'm certain he would have extended the tour if we had had more time. Should I find myself in Porto again, he's definitely the first person I will call to show me more of the city, which is as lovely and interesting as Nuno says it is.
"Nuno was wonderfully knowledgeable and had a charming disposition and a good dash of humour to make the tour an entertaining one. The walk brought us to parts of Porto I probably woudlnt have found on my own and the views and photographic opportunities were stunning." (Tee L) “Nice walking tour in Porto”"It was a really great walking tour, showing the highlights and some hidden spots of Porto. We went into some places I'd have never been able to find myself, and Nuno shared lots of interesting details of the city (I found the information on tiles and architecture the most interesting). Thanks!" (Szeleiniki)
Very much enjoyed meeting Nuno, with the opportunity understanding first hand, his perspective on what daily life is like in Porto. Of course, not to forget his cooking and the nice wine that he has chosen for us.
"Tantas saudades!
(Margot) "We live in Porto actually, and even if we know well our city, we discover some stories and magic places that we didn't know. We were really happy to be your guest in Porto " (Emmanuel) |
